Well, on tuesday 30th November 2004, myself and Xfresh CREW Bobby were invited to the exclusive premiere of Polar Express on iMAX 3D @ Times Square KL.
Although we have just watched the film in its 35mm version 2-Dimensional last week at GSC MidValley Megamall during the press screening, this was an unbelievable experience.
There's no point of me blabbering about iMAX 3D Theater over here as there is no words that could possibly explain it.
You have to experience it to believe it
So yea, it is actually called iMAX DIGI Theater, situated on the 10th floor of times square.
Well, we were allowed to choose the drinks that we wanted !! so cool !! and it was free refill.. for us la... :P press mah ! :P
Anyways, below are the photos that i took personally during the trip to the projection room of iMAX 3D and our preview of Polar Express in 3D.
This is the projector, massive!! about three times the size of the normal 35mm projector that u can find in GSC & TGV Cinemas
This is the picture of the thing that holds the two reels of films that is used to create the 3D effects. These reels of films are bigger than the normal 35mm...you will find more technical details from bobby's blog.
This is a PALM, model M130. You must be wondering why this palm is used in a projection room, well actually it is the computer that controls the speed that both reels are moving at. Both reels must be moving at the same speed so as to create the 3D effect, where both film reels must go through the projector at the same Timecode also known as TCR.
Here's Bobby with the 3D glasses provided by iMAX to be worn in the theater. Sorry, you won't be able to keep it at the end, as you will have to pass it back to them... haha...
